We make resolutions in our professional life; we always like to make them attainable so that we can feel good about our successes when December rolls around again. (We don’t try set unrealistic goals that would only hurt our progress!)

We have included action items to help you reach your goals. Here are 5 Attainable Business New Year’s Resolutions. Please use them to fit your own business goals, with suggested action items to help you achieve them.

  1. Increase sales in 2018 by Improving Web Presence

You really want to increase sales, right? Set a goal to improve your web presence by updating the cohesiveness of your website, meaning your logo, colors, images, copy, content and page layouts.

Invest the time and resources to update your site. You can opt for a do-it-yourself approach – we like Wix, or you can hire a developer to build you a website.

Sample action items:

  • Update your website to look modern and fresh.
  • Ask yourself these questions: Is it easy for users to navigate and find what they need?
  • Can consumers find your website by searching on Google?
  • Is it easy for customers to purchase items through PayPal or another payment processor?

  1. Improve Email Marketing

Now is the perfect time to review your email marketing strategy, or start an email marketing campaign. In fact, it is one of the easiest attainable New Year’s resolutions you can make in your business.

Who is responding to your email campaigns and who isn’t? Are you missing an opportunity to target your ideal clients through emails? Delete subscribers who haven’t engaged in over a year, which will help your business feel productive instead of stagnant.

Sample action items:

  • Scrub clean your email list delete any non-active subscribers.
  • Segment your audience using information you know about your subscribers.
  • Personalize your emails with the end goal of increasing the chances of your customers opening, clicking and purchasing.

  1. Become the Expert in Your Business

Nothing will make you more successful than proper personal branding. The more places you appear, the more people get to know you through your knowledge. Dedicate 2018 to becoming the expert in your industry. A very easy way to do this is to start creating more content. This means creating more content on your website, social media sites, video on YouTube and Facebook, and through local events.

Sample action items:

  • Book one speaking engagement per month.
  • Guest post on two other blogs each month.
  • Ramp up social media interaction to X times daily.

  1. Cross Off the Toughest Tasks First

What do you really dread doing today? If it is intimidating you, then make it a goal to get that item done first thing! If you complete the worst task first thing, the rest of the work day will feel like a breeze!

Sample action items:

  • Get a planner and write the least favorite tasks first.
  • Use an auto schedule planner to take menial tasks out of the way.
  • Track time spent on tasks and cross off any that take more than 1 hour. It probably isn’t worth your time.

  1. Delegate Time for Yourself

It’s easy to get caught up in the rapid struggle of work emails, family schedules and life’s countless obligations. Delegate 60 minutes of quality you-time and you will feel better equipped to handle work and family. If you’re bogged down in tasks rather than working on the bigger picture for your life, your business will never achieve growth.

Sample action items:

  • Create space and time for yourself to focus on non-business items.
  • Improve one skill set a month.
  • Hire an assistant to take on tasks like e-mail and phone.

We encourage you to keep your list of Attainable Business New Year’s Resolutions handy, so you can look at them throughout the year.

Happy New Year!
